Robert Bradshaw Ball, age 86, died at the Groton Community Healthcare Center on April 4, 2011.

Mr. Ball was born on February 20, 1925 in Birchardville, PA, son of the late Clayton Myron Ball and Edith M. Hughes Ball. He spent his youth in Ithaca, NY and was a graduate of Ithaca High School. A veteran of the United States Army, Bob proudly served his country, in India, during World War II.

Bob married Audrey Bennett Ball on November 8, 1947. Audrey passed away in December 2005, in Lakeland, FL, after a long illness. He and Audrey did not have children of their own but greatly enjoyed time with family, friends and their beloved Beagle dogs. Bob and Audrey worked and lived in central New York for many years then moved to Maryland, where Bob worked for the US Government Printing Office in Washington, DC. Upon his retirement, he and Audrey returned to Trumansburg, NY then moved to Lakeland, Florida where they resided for many years. Bob was active as a community volunteer while in Lakeland. He was also a proud member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks. He returned to central New York in 2006, after Audrey’s passing, residing at the Groton Community Healthcare Center until his death.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers:  Eugene H. Ball, Selden E. Ball and Donald C. Ball. Surviving relatives are his only sister, Charlotte M. Hallam of Morrisville, NY and several nieces and nephews and their families. The staff at the Groton Community Health Care Center was like family to Bob and he will be greatly missed there.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 441 West Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204 or the Groton Community Health Care Center, 120 Sykes Street, Groton, NY 13073.
