Ethel W. CovertEthel W. Covert, a resident of Juniper Manor in Trumansburg, passed away at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the age of 95.

Born on August 27, 1915 in Trumansburg, Ethel was the daughter of Wallace and Carrie Northup Williams. A graduate of Trumansburg High School, she worked at Montgomery Ward in Ithaca for 24 years before accepting a position with Wilco Business Forms, also in Ithaca. She worked at Wilco for 11 years before retiring in 1981.

Ethel enjoyed the many friendships established through membership in the Trumansburg United Methodist Church. She was active in the community, serving on the Residents Assn. and the Board of Directors for Trumansburg Seniorís Inc. at Juniper Manor. Ethel was also Past President of the Young Womenís Community Club of Ithaca, Past Matron of Trumansburg Star Chapter #479 OES, Past Noble Grand and Past District Deputy President of Juanita Rebekah Lodge #163 of Trumansburg, Past Grand Officer of the Rebekah Assembly of New York, and held membership in the Trumansburg Senior Citizens.

In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, E. Clinton Covert in 1969. She is survived by two children, William E. Covert of DeRuyter and Mary E. Manska of Cincinnati, OH; three grandchildren, Stanley W. Covert, Christine A. June and Daniel D. Hallock; six great-grandchildren, Jason Covert, Ryan and Nicole June, Carissa, Dylan and Abigail Hallock; one great-great-granddaughter, Kielee Thompson; a twin sister, Edith Strickland of Largo, FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will begin at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Losey officiating. Members of the Trumansburg Star Chapter #479 OES will perform an Eastern Star Tribute Service.
