Roger
A. Jackson, Sr., of 759 White Church Road,
Brooktondale passed away at
Cayuga
Medical
Center on Wednesday,
January 5, 2011 at the age of 70.
Roger was born on February 27, 1940 in
Covert, a son of the late Andrew and Isabelle (Wright) Jackson. He worked as a
custodian at
Cornell
University
in Baker Hall for 42 years before retiring.
Roger and his wife, Janette, raised a wide variety of birds
together for many years having a few hundred at one point in time. He enjoyed
watching a variety of sports on TV including boxing and bull riding. Roger was
an avid NASCAR and Dale Ernhardt, Jr. fan, rarely missing a race on Sundays. He
was an active member of the UAW while working at Cornell and was also a member
of the NRA.
In addition to his parents, Roger was
preceded in death by his wife, Janette Jackson; and a brother, Frankie
Jackson. He is survived by his son, Roger A.
Jackson, Jr. (Shannon Stryker) of Brooktondale; a granddaughter, Amber Jackson;
mother, Jean Marvin of Brooktondale; two brothers, Donald Parker of Trumansburg
and Archie Kirby of South Carolina; and two sisters, Vivian Kirby of
Brooktondale and Sharon Jackson of Florida.
The family will be present to receive
friends from 12:00 to 1:00pm on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Ness-Sibley
Funeral Home, 23 South Street,
Trumansburg. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 8, at
the funeral home. Prayers of committal will immediately follow in
Jones
Cemetery.
