Anna L. OrtonAnna L. Orton of 8494 Falls Rd., Trumansburg, passed away unexpectedly at Cayuga Medical Center on Monday morning, August 22, 2011, at the age of 74. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the Cayuga Medical Center’s fourth floor staff for the compassionate care given to their mother.

Born on January 25, 1937 in Trumansburg, Anna was the daughter of Harley R. and Lillian R. (Berry) Jenney. Following graduation from Lansing High School, she accepted a position at Purity Ice Cream. She enjoyed interacting with the customers while bringing a smile to their faces with home-made ice cream. Anna also worked at NCR for a few years before devoting full-time energy to the care of her growing family. Together, she and her husband, Ralph often packed the camper and children into the truck for a much anticipated camping adventure. The hearts of their children still harbor cherished memories made on those carefree traveling and camping excursions. Anna and Ralph also enjoyed bowling together and sharing in the life events of their children and grandchildren.  Her dogs and cats were considered a part of the family, receiving more than their fair share of Anna’s doting. In recent years, she could often be found coloring or taking in the splendor of the magnificent flower gardens planted around her home by her daughter-in-law Mary. Many of Anna’s days were brightened by the sight and smell of these beautiful flowers.

In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband Ralph J. on March 27, 2008, and one brother, Bert Jenney, Sr. She is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Hank) Guthrie of Smithfield, VA, Kathryn (Daniel Griswold) Watkins of Ovid, and Ronda (David) Williamson of Trumansburg; four sons, John (Mary J) Watkins of Trumansburg, Jim (Emily) Watkins of East Providence, RI, Joe (Renee) Watkins of Spencer, and Jerry (Carol) Watkins of Heiskell, TN; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister Dorothy (Harold) Tarmy of Natick, MA; a sister-in-law, Aggie Jenney of Marion; many nieces and nephews; and a good friend, Pat Ayers of Lodi.

A reception will be held for Anna’s family and their friends from 2-4 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Ronda Williamson, 6229 Searsburg Rd., Trumansburg. The family will provide food and beverage and welcomes anyone who feels so moved to bring a dish to share with friends. Dress is casual.
