Arthur J. “Bud” Golder of Trumansburg died January 23rd, 2005 at 71. Bud was the son of Arthur J. Golder and Harriet Inderlied Mindnich of Ithaca. Bud received his A.B. degree from Cornell University in 1954 and his Bachelor of Laws in 1956.

He was admitted to practice law in 1957, worked for a Syracuse law firm and then became associated with Walter J. Wiggins, Esq. in Ithaca establishing a branch office in Trumansburg. In 1960 he became a partner in the Ithaca law firm Wiggins, Tsapis, Golder and Freeman. He became a sole practitioner in 1970, retaining his office in Trumansburg. His son joined him in the practice from 1990 to 1994. Bud retired from his law practice in 1996. Bud was Village Attorney for many years, and his public service also included a term on the Tompkins County Board of Representatives, and lately advising informally many groups in the community.

Bud was instrumental in many organizations including the Rotary Club, where in the 1980’s he participated with others in administering the International Rotary Exchange Student Program. He assisted with the formation of the Trumansburg Golf Course, and enjoyed playing golf while his eyesight permitted.

Bud treasured his thirty-two years of marriage to Margaret “Pinky” Miller Golder, also from Ithaca. After graduating, and each beginning work in Syracuse, they met at Seal and Serpent Fraternity on Cornell’s campus, to which both Bud and Pinky’s brother belonged. The family home was at 19 Congress Street. Bud and Pinky were devoted to family, lavishing their children with love and opportunity while caring for each of their parents later in their parent’s lives.

Bud was a passionate fan and lifelong collector of small and big band jazz. His passion for jazz led him to an encyclopedic knowledge of jazz artists and styles, which he readily shared with fellow enthusiasts. He and Pinky enjoyed jazz venues when travel was possible.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his children, Catherine, (Chris) Honness, Arthur John (Rachel) Golder and Lynn (Frank) Golder Benavides, and his grandchildren, Kyle Honness, Matthew Honness, Margaret Golder, Thomas Golder, and Arthur John Golder IV, and the Millers, Jeanette, Natalie, Pamela, Roger, Tammy, Scott, Kris and Grant.

The family will be present to receive their friends at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street Trumansburg on Friday, January 28th 2005 from 6-8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Church of the Epiphany in Trumansburg on Saturday January 29th at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Gurdon Brewster presiding. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
