Edward
Jay Voorheis of 4955 Mott Evans Rd., Trumansburg, lost his battle with cancer on
Sunday, January 11, 2009 at the age of 67.
Ed was born in Waverly, New York on June 8, 1941 to the late J. Harold and Gladys (Harford) Voorheis, He graduated from Watkins Glen High School and attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Following in his Dad’s footsteps, Ed became a carpenter. He was a member of the South Central New York District Council of Carpenters and was owner/operator of Edward J. Voorheis Construction until his retirement. He was a member of the Trumansburg Masonic Lodge #157 F&AM and the Trumansburg Senior Citizens.
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his brother, Harold R. Voorheis.
Ed married Sandra (Hill) Duncan and her three children on September 24, 1983. He is survived by his wife Sandy; two sons, Scott E. And Lane H. Voorheis; his mother-in-law, Betty Hill; two step-sons, Daniel France and Scott Duncan; one step-daughter, Debrah Hildreth; four grandchildren, Danielle, Allie, Jason and Zachery Voorheis; five step-grandchildren, Timothy (Emily) Troy, Nicole and Brittany France, Matthew Duncan, Billy Hildreth; two step-great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Juliana Troy; one sister, Connie Davis; one brother, Raymond (Joan) Voorheis; many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins and so many special friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Trumansburg American Legion, 4431 Seneca Rd., Trumansburg with the Rev. Fred Edmister officiating. Masonic Rites will be given by fellow members of the Trumansburg Masonic Lodge #157 F&AM. Immediately following the services, a reception will be held at the legion.
