V. Gary Davenport

V. Gary Davenport of Ithaca passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the age of 85.

Gary was born in Elkland, Pennsylvania on December 14, 1938 a son of the late Burnell and Freda (Lattimer) Davenport. He worked as a research assistant in the Baker Lab at Cornell University for 43 years. A renaissance man, Gary was a proficient painter, talented musician playing the violin, cello, and piano, built his own home, and could always be found tinkering and fixing just about anything.

Gary is survived by his wife, Florence Davenport; children, Jamie (Rebekah) Davenport, Laurel (Jeff) Capobianco, Ted (Patrick Magee) Davenport, and Jodie Davenport; grandchildren, Jamie (Dove Dewey) Davenport Jr., Austin and Elizabeth Davenport, and Ryan Capobianco; and a brother, Mahlon Davenport. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Davenport; and brothers, Conrad and Philip Davenport.

The family will be present to receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home.
