Robert Floyd Carlisle, formerly of Trumansburg, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the age of 89.
Bob was born in Ithaca on March 3, 1934, a son of the late Floyd and Isabella (Eaton) Carlisle. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy and worked at Cornell General Stores for 42 years as a material handler. Bob loved to share that when he began at Cornell there were only 3 elevators on the entire campus. He faithfully drove his Cabover truck making deliveries all over the campus. Bob was also the co-owner of Bob and Ginny’s Treasures Antique Shop. When he wasn’t at the store he could be found at local flea markets selling merchandise.
Bob was always willing to help others serving as a Boy Scout Leader for the Troop in Mecklenburg and was a volunteer fireman in Enfield for many years. Bob was a loving husband and father who helped raise six children with a heart of gold. His greatest love in life was his family and his favorite moments were sharing stories with them over a campfire.
Over the past few years he developed a close friendship and love for Laverna Woodard, whom he met at Oak Hill Manor. The two shared their last years enjoying life together.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and aides at Oak Hill Manor, along with a special thanks to Betty for all the loving care she provided over the past 6 years that Bob resided there.
Bob is survived by five children, Deborah (Harold) Simpson, Dawn (Richard) Ottman, Robin (Paul) Carlisle-Peck, Treska (Earl) Wright, and Mark (Wendy) Carlisle; 10 grandchildren, Daniel (Tara) Bauman, Brent (Mary) Terwilliger, David (Leah) Ottman, Rick (Taylor) Ottman, Rianna Powers, Rochelle (Justin) Collis, Karin (Jon) Lanning, Kendra Peck, Victoria (DonPaul) Wright, and Brittany Carlisle; numerous great grandchildren; siblings, Lorraine (Wayne) Jennings, Lawrence Carlisle, and Michael (Janet) Carlisle; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; son, Robert Carlisle Jr.; grandson, Robert Bauman; siblings, Gale Carlisle, Kenneth Carlisle, and Joyce Davis; and companion, Laverna Woodard.
The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00pm on Friday, January 26, 2023 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately for family.
The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Bob’s memory to kindly consider the Enfield Volunteer Fire Department, 172 Enfield Main Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 or the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.
