Roger Jerrold Smith Sr. of Interlaken passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Monday, February 19, 2024 at the age of 83.
Roger was born in Ithaca on May 25, 1940, a son of the late Howard and Marjorie (Slaght) Smith. After graduating high school, he began working as a meat cutter at P&C in Trumansburg and would continue his career there, retiring after 46 years working at various P&C locations in the area. His meat cutting skills were also used to process deer for many of his family and friends. Roger was also a hunter and member of several local sportsmen’s clubs. His greatest joy came when he was fishing especially when he was joined by his grandkids, often sharing the bounty he caught with family and friends. Growing up, Roger spent every summer at his family cottage on Cayuga Lake, eventually remodeling it so he could live there year round. He was an animal lover and enjoyed feeding the ducks and geese. He was also an AKC trainer specializing in Labradors and participated in many dog shows. Roger was a dedicated grandfather often times traveling to visit with his grandkids, support them at sporting events, and teaching them how to hunt and fish.
Roger is survived by his children, Cheri (Rob) Miller, Amy (Mike) Woodin, and Annette Smith; daughter in law, Lauri Smith; grandchildren, Dannielle (Adam) Smith, Ryan Smith, Jeremy Smith, Emily (Bob) Mix, Nicole (Brandon) Hicks, Alanie Woodin, Max (Kristin) Miller, Alicia (Nick) Conover, and Lisa Delp; great grandchildren, Alfie, Ellen, Lucy, Lincoln, Sam, and Mason; brother in law, Walt McFall; and sister in law, Barbara Smith Redman; and dear friends, Glen Beardsley, and Claire McDonald.
