Dr. John B. Bezirganian

Dr. John Bezirganian, 65, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at Cayuga Medical Center, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born in Chicago to Dr. George Bezirganian (dec.) and Mary Pauline Bezirganian. He grew up in Middletown, NY and was the brother of Carol (Tony) Perez and of Steve Bezirganian. He married Sophia in 1989 and they brought up two wonderful sons, Simon and Andrew (fiancée Nelle Allen), who were the joy of John's life.

John trained as a physician specializing in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. He spent most of his career serving public community clinics in Tompkins and Tioga Counties, as well as the Tompkins County Jail. He was a longtime member of the Armenian Missionary Association of America and St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Ithaca, where served for many years on their boards.

John was a beloved son, brother, father, husband, cousin, uncle, doctor, friend, and Christian. John would say he came to resemble Puddleglum from The Chronicles of Narnia over the years - thoughtful, dry-witted, and steadfast - which, in the end, was not a bad thing at all. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Ithaca at 10:00am on Monday, July 21, 2025, by Fr. Zenoviy Zharsky. Prayers of committal will be held at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg.
