Edwin A. Meixell of Trumansburg passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the age of 90.
Edwin was born on September 15, 1927 in Lehigh Tannery, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Robert and Flossie (Brown) Meixell. After graduating from Foster High School, Edwin enlisted in the Navy in 1945 at the age of 17 and served for 3 years.
Edwin attended Cornell University and graduated from the College of Agriculture with a major in Poultry Management. During this time he worked on the Wyant family farm in Scipio on a summer internship where he met his wife Mary. They were married in June, 1952 in Scipioville, NY
Over the years, Edwin sold stock feed, baby chicks, was a poultry farmer for Babcock Farms, founded Meixell Lake Country Realty and Meixell Appraisal Services where he worked until his mid-80's, primarily appraising dairies, vineyards, and other agricultural properties. He also served on the Trumansburg Board of Education and the TST Boces Board of Education. Edwin will be most remembered as a wonderful husband, supportive father, horse show supporter and a kind, quiet, gentle soul.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 66 years Mary Meixell; three children, Sarah (Marty Hilliard) Meixell, Peter (Carmen) Meixell, Eliza (Ingolf Hack) Meixell; two grandchildren, John Robert (Kaitlyn Percey) Meixell and Matthew King; and a sister, Jane Foltz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Gower.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg with a light reception to follow at Little Venice. Prayers of Committal will be held privately for family.
