Eleanor S. Swartz of Ithaca passed away on April 16, 2026, at Cayuga Medical Center at the age of 94.
Born on February 28, 1932, in Caywood, New York, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Bert and Mary (Huff) Stewart. A graduate of Interlaken High School, Eleanor’s early years were grounded in the values of hard work and loyalty, principles she carried throughout her life. Alongside her late husband, Robert Swartz, she co-owned and operated Terminal Taxi in Ithaca for many years. Even after closing this chapter, Eleanor continued to work as a secretary for Wrights Insurance, remaining active in her career well into her late eighties.
Family was the heart of Eleanor’s existence. She was known for her warmth, nurturing spirit, and unyielding devotion to her loved ones. She found joy in gardening and enjoyed completing jig saw puzzles.
Eleanor is survived by her children Bobbi (Daniel) Thoman, Cole (Amy) Swartz, and Brian (Daniel) Swartz; grandchildren Nathan, Haley, Nicholas, Lauren, Logan, Cooper, Danielle, Jared, Marty, and Katee; great-grandchildren Pope and Shep; siblings Agnes Morris and Thomas Stewart; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Swartz; her son Mark Swartz; stepchildren Barry DeLibero and Becky Fennamore; and siblings George, Fred, Bert, and Harold Stewart, Evelyn Georgia, Betty Reynolds, and Rita Fish.
The family will be present to receive friends on April 24, 2026, from Noon to 2:00pm at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private for family at Lake View Cemetery in Ithaca.
