Fred Millspaugh, a lifelong resident of Trumansburg, passed away peacefully on February 8th. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 44 years, Elisa Millspaugh, a proud father to his daughter Jessica Kanfer and her husband David, and an adoring grandfather to their two children, Jackson and Charlotte.
Born and raised in Trumansburg, Fred lived his entire life in the community he loved—except for the years he bravely served his country as a member of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was part of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 1, where his extraordinary courage and selflessness were evident in his duty: jumping from helicopters to rescue downed pilots during missions.
Before the war, Fred was a gifted athlete, known for his natural talent and competitive spirit. Throughout his life, he embodied kindness, bravery, and unwavering mental toughness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Arthur Millspaugh, and his brother Jimmy. He is survived by his loving wife, Elisa; his daughter, Jessica, and her family; his brothers, Dale and Roger; his sister, Brenda; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many dear friends who will miss his early morning coffee companionship, his steady presence, and his smart jokes.
Fred found joy in life’s simple pleasures—fishing, golfing, helping both animals and people, and working with his hands, whether building small intricate projects or an entire home. His craftsmanship and character will live on in the things he built and the people he loved.
A service honoring Fred’s life and service to his country will be held in the spring. An announcement with a date and time will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's honor may be made to Fisher House Foundation. Fisher House Foundation builds homes where military & veterans families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital.
