John Van Herk

John Van Herk of Enfield passed away peacefully at home on March 29, 2026, surrounded by family at the age of 62. He was a dedicated professional and a man of many talents whose legacy will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Born August 15, 1963, in the Netherlands, John was the son of Pieter and Maria (Van Der Waal) Van Herk. John’s career was marked by his expertise and adaptability, having worked at various establishments including Vanguard Printing and Ithaca Beer. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the facilities manager at Knickerbocker Bed Company in Ithaca.

From a young age, John demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for fixing things—a trait that stayed with him throughout his life. John was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting, fishing, and hosting bonfires.

John is survived by his wife, Melissa Philip; son, Jonathan Van Herk; mother, Maria Alexander; step daughter, Halley (Brandon Mayr) Philip; grandchildren, Destiny, Julianna, and Brandon Mayr; brother, Tony (Kim) Van Herk; and nephews Anthony, Andrew, and Alex Van Herk. He was preceded in death by his father, Pieter Van Herk.
