Laurrie Jean Coffin of Ithaca passed away at home surrounded by family on Friday, June 19, 2026 at the age of 64.
Laurrie was born in Cortland on September 21, 1961, a daughter of the late Allen Coffin, Sr. (Deborah) and Virginia (Doll) Jones. Laurrie spent her early years in Central New York, a place that remained dear to her throughout her life. She graduated from Alfred State College before beginning a long and meaningful career at Cornell University in April 1984, where she contributed her time and talents with earnest dedication.
She found quiet joy in life’s simplest moments and in the relationships she gently nurtured over the years. Holidays in her home were filled with the warmth of her family and the comfort of shared meals, and each birthday was marked by a cake she lovingly baked and decorated by hand. Laurrie treasured her time in the ladies’ bowling league, where the friendships she formed grew deep and enduring. She was also an avid gardener, tending her plants with patience and care. Her home stood as a reflection of that devotion—alive with vibrant flowers, flourishing greenery, and the quiet beauty of all she had nourished.
Above all, Laurrie was a devoted mother. She poured her heart into raising her children, surrounding them with unwavering love, attention, and support. Her children were the center of her world, and she gave of herself generously and joyfully.
Laurrie treasured time spent traveling with family and friends, whether walking along the ocean shore, exploring mountain landscapes, or boating on Cayuga Lake. In these moments, she was most herself—relaxed, content, and radiant. Those who knew her will remember the warmth of her presence: a glass of wine in her hand, a smile on her face, and a light in her unforgettable eyes that will be deeply missed.
Laurrie is survived by her two children, Kuyler and Ayala Coffin; siblings, Carol (John) Draper, Allen (Dede) Coffin Jr., Dale Coffin, Barb Woodmansee, and Brenda (William) Doeing; step siblings, Claudia Gregg, David (Liz) Jones, Laurie Lees (Michael Sherwood), and Lisa Giannone; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. In addition to her parents, Laurrie was preceded in death by her stepfather, Frederick Jones; brother, Ed Cummings; and loving partner, Stephen A. Karl.
The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00pm on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 3:00pm at the funeral home.
The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Laurrie’s memory to kindly consider Stay Wild Rescue, Searsburg Road, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
