Logan A. Manciocchi

Logan A. Manciocchi, age 11, of Avoca and Trumansburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Born in Hornell, New York on November 14, 1996 Logan was full of fun and anything but ordinary. At the age of three Logan was the youngest competitor in the Wayland BMX Bike Race, forcing the officials to create a separate class so that he could race. He went on to compete in the State Championship in Kingston that same year. Logan was never afraid to take chances which opened many doors to another level of excitement. With enthusiasm he played in the summer soccer league and in the baseball Little League. After his diagnosis in 2006 he was still chosen to be on the Little League All Stars. Never feeling sorry for himself, Logan enjoyed spending time with his siblings and worried only about others well-being.

Easy to laugh, Logan's sense of humor was contagious. Some of his favorite pastimes were skipping rocks with his dad, caring for his kitties, riding his prized horse Coco and seeking adventure with his faithful dog Derby. While sitting in his room surrounded by a collection of memorial bracelets, Build-A-Bears, and horse memorabilia, Logan would be singing his heart out to any country music, especially "If You're Going Through Hell" and "Watching You" by Rodney Atkins. His dream of meeting this singing hero was fulfilled not once, but twice in 2007. In that same year Logan sang "If You're Going Through Hell" at the Steuben County Fair Talent Show tying for 1st place for a $50 cash prize and trophy. Logan lifted the spirits and hopes of many as he sang the same song at the C.U.R.E. Picnic in Rochester in 2007.

Last October Logan won the silliest costume award at the Corning Glass Halloween Party, taking home the coveted glass pumpkin which was made by Corning Glass. In April of 2008 he went to Cleveland and watched his Yankee team hand the Indians their hats. Last month at the Bath Fair, Logan was featured with his brother Devin who piloted a Demo Derby car for the first time.

Logan's family would like to thank the countless friends that rallied around them during Logan's illness. A trademark slogan "Love For Logan" was repeated lovingly by those who were close to him and memorial bracelets were worn to provide hope and support. Logan will never truly be gone as long as his caring smile and contagious laugh live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Logan is survived by his father Steven M. (Sheryl) Manciocchi of Trumansburg; his mother Stephanie (Bruce Keesey) Manciocchi of Avoca; two brothers Devin and Austin Manciocchi of Avoca; one step-brother Dominik Seamon of Trumansburg; one sister Paige Manciocchi of Avoca; Paternal Grandmother Janet Snyder of Bath; Maternal Grandparents Gretchen and David Hubbard of Avoca; step-grandmother Laura Scott of Trumansburg and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, teachers, classmates, teammates and friends. Logan was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandfather Arthur Manciocchi

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 14 at the First Baptist Church , 4443 East Seneca Rd , Trumansburg with the Rev. Tim Dean and the Rev. Jim Geuder officiating.

There will also be a Celebration of Life at St. Mary's Church, E. Morris St., Bath on Monday, September 15 at 5:00 pm.

A Candle Light Vigil for children and families who knew Logan will be held at Hees Park in Avoca on Friday, September 19 beginning at 8:00 pm.
