Trumansburg

Terry L. Harvey of Trumansburg passed away at home on Monday October 19, 2026 at the age of 88.

Terry was born in Barton on July 22, 1938, a son of the late Donald and Marjorie (Smith) Harvey. Terry was a 1958 graduate of Bainbridge High School, where he was a standout athlete throughout his high school years. He continued both his education and his love of sports at Delhi Tech School, graduating in 1962. During his time there, he remained active in athletics as a member of the varsity baseball team and also played basketball. His connection to baseball continued for years as he spent time playing on the Bainbridge Braves Town team. Terry was a lifelong Dodgers fan, attending many spring training games over the years in Florida and Arizona.

Terry went on to build a long and dedicated professional life. He trained at and graduated from the New York State Police Academy, and also completed EOD school in Huntsville, Alabama. He retired as a senior investigator with the New York State Police Troop C out of Sidney. After retiring from the State Police, he continued working in security with NYSEG in Ithaca. Never one to sit still, he later spent several years as a courier for Maguire Motors in Ithaca.

An avid outdoorsman, Terry enjoyed deer hunting with the Yaleville Gang, pheasant hunting in the Finger Lakes, and especially his time at Camp-Fish-A-Lot specializing as the camp chef. He frequently told stories of hunting trips to Idaho and the Dakotas along with walleye fishing trips to Canada. His trip to Alaska was a once in a lifetime experience and he always said that everyone should make that trip at least once in their lifetime.

Terry was a decades-long member of the Bainbridge Sportsman’s Association in Bainbridge where the annual clam bakes were always a highlight. He was a dedicated member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and Trout Unlimited. Additionally, Terry was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #636.

Terry was instrumental in his grandchildren having the opportunity to hunt and fish. He enjoyed keeping up with the grandkids sporting events and always looked forward to highlights and scores. Grandpa’s chicken wings were second to none and the kids were always up for a trip to Ron Don’s in Trumansburg for pizza. Gardening was a favorite hobby of Terry’s, especially growing tomatoes and peppers. For many years, he often had three gardens in the town of Bainbridge, and passed on the tradition to the next generations.

Terry is survived by his children, Jace (Rebecca) Harvey and Lori (Doug) Smith; step children, Dawn (Edward) Millspaugh-Trapp, Denise (Eric) Blass, and Scott Millspaugh; grandchildren, Heather (Drew) Leigland, Travis (Stacie) Harvey, Danika Harvey, Brock Harvey, Cooper Harvey, Paige Smith, Chad (Megan) Blass, Caleb (Lyndsay) Blass, Maranda (Spencer) Snee, Brandon Millspaugh and Matthew Millspaugh; great grandchildren, Devin and Kendall Leigland, Harper Harvey, Jed Blass, Benjamin Snee, and Cooper and Grayson Blass; special friend, Marcia Lyon; brother, Curtis Harvey; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha; his second wife, Mary J. Harvey; and a sister, Nancy Dodge.

Terry’s family wishes to extend a very special thanks to Hospicare of Tompkins County and the wonderful nurses, Jessica, Shelby and Erica, who provided care to Terry over the past several months.
