Carol Mary (Douglas) Chase

Carol Mary Chase of Ithaca passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the age of 89.  

Carol was born in Binghamton on December 17, 1932, a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Alber) Douglas. Carol worked alongside her late husband, Frank Chase, building more than 200 homes in the Ithaca area which led to years in a real estate career. She was an active attendee of the Salvation Army in Ithaca and SAGA. She sang with the Cayuga Chimes for many years and loved playing the piano. She loved to entertain, from having family and friends in her home for meals, and games, to creating social gatherings wherever she went. She loved to sew, knit and do counted cross-stitch turning each project into personal statements of love for each person. She devoted her whole life to living for others so God’s love would be seen through her. She’ll be remembered for her gracious, generous, and loving ways/

Carol is predeceased by her husband, Francis, “Frank”; and son Randall (Amy) Chase; her brother Frederick Douglas; and sisters, Pauline Mysato and Bonnie Douglas. Carol is survived by four children, Michelle (Oliver) DeChant, Kim Chase, Daniel (Janet Booth) Chase, and Jeffrey Chase; nine grandchildren, Angellica (Matthew) McClelland, Catherine (Marcus) Johnson-Taylor, Sarah Johnson, Candace Chase, Amanda Chase, Ashley (Morgan)Terrell, Sarah Chase, Tyler Chase, and Nathan Chase; fifteen great grandchildren, Alayjah, Prince, Harper, Sadie, Ella, Aiyanna, Jaden, Kevin, Chase, Triton, Langston, Chad, Asher, Charles, and Dillon; brother and sisters in law, Martin (Barbara) Chase and Lore Fuller; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Christ Chapel, 160 Graham Road, Ithaca.

In lieu of flowers or cards, the family requests that donations in Carol’s memory be directed to the Salvation Army of Ithaca’s SAGA program or Senior Retreat, 150 N. Albany Street, Ithaca, NY 14850; or the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, 612 West State Street, Ithaca, NY 14850.
