Dan Rappleye Obituary

Dan Rappleye passed away on February 18, 2023 at a Hospice Home in Florida, surrounded by his family.

He was born January 8, 1945 to Oliver and Edna (Wallenbeck) Rappleye in Ithaca New York. He grew up in Newfield and attended Newfield Central School, graduating from there in 1963. Dan honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. On December 8, 1967, he married Bonnie Whitaker and the two recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.

Dan was employed at NCR for 35 years as a computer programmer. He took a position at Jamex and remained there until his retirement.

In retirement he enjoyed wintering in Bushnell, Florida. A car enthusiast, he enjoyed cruising in his 56 Chevy pickup truck and was a member of the Ithaca Car Pride Club. Dan was also a member of the Trumansburg Rifle and Pistol Club, Trumansburg American Legion Post 770, and First Baptist Church of Trumansburg.

Dan is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Paul Rappleye; daughter, Theresa (Albert) Rappleye Mirich; grandchildren, Kyle Rappleye, Corbin and Peri Mirich, and Isabelle Rappleye; special niece, Sandra Fish; nephews, George (Janet) Fairchild; and sisters in law, Rita (James) Brown and Yvonne (Daniel) Wright.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his stepfather, Vernon Switzer Sr.; sister, Helen (Charles) Fairchild; and a brother, Karl Rappleye.

The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00am on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Trumansburg, 4443 East Seneca Road, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11:00am at the church. Prayers of committal with military honors will be held at Grove Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those to make a donation in Dan’s memory to Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
