David P. Gallagher, age 84, of Trumansburg passed away at Hospicare and Palliative Services in Ithaca on Sunday, June 4, 2023.
He was born in Philadelphia, April 7, 1939, a son of the late Louis and Gladys Gallagher. After attending Villanova University, David spent the early part of his career assistant teaching at Temple and Penn University in Philadelphia, PA. David and his family relocated to Ithaca, NY in 1981, where he then taught Veterinary Practice Management for 10 years at The College of Veterinary Medicine, Cornell University. During his time at Cornell, he and his wife Jane founded Veterinary Management Consultants, consulting on management & business matters exclusively for Veterinarians across the US. David spent the latter portion of his life exploring other interests such as the enjoyment that creating and walking Labyrinths brought. He spent nearly 20 years as the Executive Director of the Labyrinth Society, an organization that is focused on “supporting all those who create, maintain, and use labyrinths, and to serve the global community by providing education, networking, and opportunities to experience transformation.” David’s other passion was his study of philosophy. David was an active member of Wisdom’s Goldenrod Center for Philosophic Study community in Hector where he studied the work of Plotinus, Paul Brunton, and Anthony Damiani. While leading a variety of classes on various study topics.
David is survived by three sons, Colin (Siobahn) Gallagher, Aran (Jen) Gallagher, and Rosse Gallagher; three grandchildren, Cooper Gallagher and Logan and Leora Gallagher. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife Jane and a daughter in law, Amy Gallagher. The family is planning a gathering at Wisdom’s Goldenrod (Entrance on Walsh Rd near 5801 NY Route 414 Hector NY 14841) on Sunday August 27th at 11:00am to celebrate David’s life.
