Mary Richar Obituary

Mary Ann Richar of Mecklenburg passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Friday, August 27, 2021 at the age of 77.

She was born on January 7, 1944 in Ithaca, a daughter of the late Harry and Lucille (Cooper) Thompson. Mary Ann graduated from Trumansburg High School and was a homemaker most of her life, raising her two boys. She was a lifelong member of the Trumansburg American Legion Post 770 Ladies Auxiliary and avid supporter of the military. She enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, taking walks with her beloved German Shepard, and hunting. Friends and family will fondly remember  her baking dozens chocolate chip cookies before her sons football games, ringing her cowbell in support of the team, and enjoying a cup of coffee after grocery trips.

Mary Ann is survived by her son, James (Justine) Richar; four grandchildren, Wyatt, Jessie, Julianna, and Jaxson Richar; sister, Jean (Jay) Russell; great aunt Shirley Cooper; and beloved kitty from hell, Grunt. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred “Al” Richar in 2001; son Patrick Richar in 2019; and two sisters, Linda Lawton and Pat Austic.

A Celebration of Life will be announced in the Spring of 2022.

In lieu of flowers the family asks those who would like to make a donation in Mary Ann’s memory to kindly consider the American Legion Post 770, PO Box 456, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
