Susan L. (Rumsey) Carlisle

Susan L. Carlisle of Newfield passed away at Robert Packer on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the age of 80.

Susan was born in Ithaca on February 3, 1943, a daughter of the late Jared and Margaret (Holley) Rumsey. She graduated from Ithaca High School and held various jobs over the years including working as an x-ray technician at Tompkins County Hospital, having a daycare in her home, and eventually retired from Cornell University as a custodian.

Susan was always very family oriented and selfless. She cared for her mother at home for many years, organized many family gatherings, enjoyed time at the family pond, participated in 4H with her children, held tea parties and made crafts with her grandchildren, and travelled the US alongside her husband, Larry in their motorhome. A member of various community groups in the area, Susan was a member of the Ladybug Club, Enfield and Newfield Senior Citizens, People’s Baptist Church and Trumbull’s Corners Church.

Susan is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lawrence Carlisle; four children, Peggy Richards, Larry (Valerie) Carlisle, Tammy (Paul Kotzer) Alling, and Beth (Mark) Veasey; eight grandchildren, Michael Baker, Cory (Camie) Richards, Michelle (Jon) Hubbell, Kayli Carlisle, Kelsi Carlisle, Shelbi (Travis Wylie) Alling, Christopher Veasey, Trevor (Brianna Leonard) Alling, Adelia Alling, and Emma Veasey; eleven great grandchildren, Jackson, Benjamin, Carol, Collette, Payton, Jolene, Viviana, Aubree, Jacquelyn, Leif, and baby girl Alling; siblings, Judy Neiss, Loreta (Linda) Rumsey-Ebert, Marlene Crockford, and Bruce (Joey) Rumsey; sister in law, DeeAnne Rumsey; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her siblings, Maynard, Russell, Phylis Brooks, Jack and Denis Rumsey; brothers in law, Dick Brooks and Bob Crockford; and sister in law, Elise Rumsey.

The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00am on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at Ithaca First Assembly of God Church, 197 Bostwick Road, Ithaca. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11:00am at the church.
